Tiramisu

Ingredients

  • 1 c strong cold expresso coffee
  • 1 package Italian ladyfingers (Savoiardi)
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 5 T sugar
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 T brandy or cognac liquor
  • 1 c heavy whipping cream
  • 1 T unsweetened cocoa powder

Preparation steps

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until frothy.
  • Add macarpone cheese and liquor and blend until smooth.
  • In another mixing bowl, whip cream until stiff and fold into the mascarpone mixture until well blended and smooth.
  • Pour the cold coffee into a dish and dip the ladyfingers very quickly into the coffee and line the bottom of a 11x7x1.5 oblong dish with the ladyfingers.
  • Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  • Dip the remaining ladyfingers quickly into the coffee and arrange another layer of ladyfingers and spread the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and chill at least six hours.
  • When ready to serve, sprinkle cocoa powder through a fine sieve over the entire surface of the tiramisu.
  • Cut square portions onto individual dessert plates.
